Week 12, 2020

It’s been a bit of a weird week and as a result, my reading is down but my blogging is up…

I work for an online company that trains people in the publishing industry. It’s a small company with two members of staff already home based but I share the office with my manager.

I started working from home on Monday and I’ve always liked it more than going to the office. I’ve working from the living room this week but moved my desk into a room upstairs with my husband’s. It’s like having an office buddy during the day and after work he can turn back into my husband when we get back to the sofa!

On the downside, not having to leave my house to go to work means that I’m missing out on the commute, which is when I do most of my reading.

  • Books started: 1 – Mrs Dalloway
  • Books read: 0
  • Pages read: 8

So instead of focusing on the week just gone, I’ll go back to the week before when I read:

  • Northanger Abbey
  • The Diary of a Nobody
  • Lady Susan

That was a good reading week!

I’m finding the change to routine has affected my reading. I intend to spend the half hour before and after work reading in the dining room as a way of forcing myself to avoid falling into a slump!

I’m trying to blog more frequently because I do now have a bit more time – another bonus of working from home vs commuting. I’m putting together a plan that I am hoping I will actually stick to!

Video Calls

Video calls suddenly have a purpose in my life! The only person I ever really have a video call with is my sister, usually on a Saturday morning and it’s a bit of a novelty.

What with the being told to stay inside, I’m seeing people that I don’t regularly speak to. I had a nice chat with my brother yesterday and the added bonus of his 2-year telling me about Peppa Pig. In the evening, we managed a couple of hours and glasses of wine with some friends we’d usually meet over the weekend.

Aside from the news, my week in TV has been loads more productive than reading or writing…!

Finished watching:

  • How to Get Away with Murder

I have a habit of leaving something on in the background and finished seasons 4 and 5 of HGTAWM. I can’t say exactly what happened but the background bursts of plotting and hysteria.

Started watching:

  • Ozark
  • Life in Pieces
  • Dare Me

I started Ozark thinking it would be my next background show but the first 15 minutes were too good to skim-watch, so I’m going to save it for my next TV gap.

I’m on season 3 of Life in Pieces and can’t believe no one’s mentioned this to me before. It’s so sweet and funny and bingeable. (I’m sure that’s a word?!)

Dare Me is proving good background company. It’s very – husky? If you can imagine that applying to a TV show. I’m only on episode 2 and it seems okay. A lot of mood music – the subtitles have been left on and every time I look up it says something like, ‘sinister ambient music’ and ‘enlivening ambient music’.

Have a great week!

That’s my week wrapped up! It’s been hazy and definitely one of the weirdest weeks I can remember. Next week I’m hoping to read a lot more, do some exercise and get better at working from home.

Stay safe – here’s to next week!
