WWW Wednesday is a weekly tag hosted on Taking on a World of Words which asks three easy questions…
What are you currently reading?
I’m 97 pages into A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. Seem to be reading this one fairly slowly but I’m enjoying it. It’s an incredibly well researched novel set in Moscow just after the revolution and despite that potentially heavy context, the novel is so far light, engaging, witty and fun.
What do you think you’ll read next?
I have a stack of Antoine Laurain books that I didn’t realise were steadily published over the last few years. I’m drawn to Smoking Kills but can imagine any of these quirky French books will be a good follow-up to A Gentleman in Moscow.
What did you recently finish reading?
I took four books on holiday with me two week ago and only managed one: The Science of Storytelling by Will Storr.
This was as good as anything else I’ve read by Storr but all the better for the exploration of what makes a story great. If you write, this is definitely something I would recommend reading.
Storr explores the psychology of readers, characters, curiosity, first lines and more and concludes with a practical creative writing programme in the appendix.
